Getting Enough Fluids?

At our daughter's 12 month check-up the doctor suggested that she should be drinking 32 ounces of whole milk a day...wow!. We're happy if she gets in 16 ounces. We have tried chocolate syrup and instant breakfast mixes to enhance the flavor but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Has anybody else had problems with their toddler? If so, were you able to remedy it?

One mother I recently talked with also mentioned the difficulty she was having in getting her 12 month old daughter to drink several ounces of whole milk each day. She however, realized that her daughter was getting the daily calcium requirement through cheese and yogurt. If it's fluids your child needs, try 100% fruit juices, if it's calcium, try other dairy products. You may be surprised to see how much they are really getting.

32 oz. is a lot of milk. I just visited with a dietician today and carter's 16 oz. of milk was just fine with her since he gets calcium in other foods. you might want to clarify with your doctor if it really is 32 oz. of liquid or whole milk.
